George's Memo

September Letter to the Residents
Did you have fun at the Annual Back-to-School Party last month? Oh, you missed it? Oh well, maybe next time.

Although I'm typing this on August 6, a full week ahead of the Party, I'm confident in predicting that many Children of Rancho del Sol received backpacks and school supplies, ate well, played games and generally had a great time. Thanks to Sabrina, Nicki Ross and to the RDS mothers who brought their kids and helped out. Your children also thank you!

As always, the Back-to-School Party was sponsored by SPARC, our resident service entity. None of your rent dollars was used for this event--it's just our way to trying to get Rancho's little scholars off to a good start to the new school year.

For your part, we'd greatly appreciate your help in getting your child not to ride his or her skateboard inside the Park. It's against both the Park Rules and Yucaipa City Ordinance. This seems to be becoming a bigger problem and a safety issue, so please help us enforce this simple rule.

Speaking of Rules...

As I type this--on Aug. 6--we've only received 42 Annual Income Certification Forms. That leaves 72 holdouts. Even you must realize that this is unacceptable!

I know I don't have to remind you that every dollar Rancho del Sol saves in property taxes is used for improvements to your Community--a much better use of your rent monies than sending those dollars to the Tax Assessor.

For example, last year's property tax exemption is paying to replace the flooring in the Clubhouse; new Clubhouse tables and chairs; and new furniture for the pool area. We could have done more if more of you had returned your forms!

Won't you please take care of this simple task--take a moment, answer a few questions and return the form? You'll have to do this eventually; you did it last year and the year before; why not just get this over with.

If you misplaced your form, you can get another one from the Office.

One Small Step for Trees...

Every year, owners of manufactured home communities are required to distribute complete copies of the Mobilehome Residency Law ("MRL") to each of their residents. We have to do this even if you still have your copy from last year. The MRL takes 20 pages to print--and that's using small type.

Assuming about 365,000 manufactured home spaces in California...20 pages x 365,000 homes = 7,300,000 pages, most of which no one ever reads. Think of all the trees that gave their lives to produce unwanted copies of the MRL--not to mention the landfill space, the toxic ink, energy costs...

That's about to change. As of January 1, 2011, we only have to let you know that you can get a free copy of the MRL at the Park Office, which we will gladly provide you.

The State Legislature finally did something intelligent! Have a Great Labor Day!
