George's Memo

September Letter to the Residents
Did you have fun at the 2nd Annual Back-to-School Party last month? Oh, you missed it? Oh well, maybe next time.

About 50 Children of Leisure did attend--and by all accounts, had a great time. Our big thanks to our volunteers, particularly Tina Rogers, Ginger Ricks, Kathy Bryant, Pam Kohler and, of course, Dee Hoefer--who volunteers for everything!

Each child in attendance received a free backpack full of school supplies, played games and feasted on pizza, cotton candy, popcorn and snow cones. OK, so it wasn't a Health Fair! Thanks again to the team of ladies who did the shopping, to Nicki Ross and Patti Jensen and to everyone that helped make this a fun event for their children.

The Back-to-School Party was sponsored by SPARC, Millennium's resident service entity. None of your rent dollars was used for this event.

Closing the Books on 2010

Leisure's fiscal year ended on June 30; at least on an accounting basis, 2010 has come to an end. It was a decent-but-not-great financial year for Leisure, all things considered.

We ended the year $23,209 ahead of budget. Leisure incurs about $1,800,000 in expenses and bond payments, so in the scheme of things, this isn't much of a surplus. However, it's great to be surviving at all during these tough economic times.

Leisure will need every dollar possible to keep the water system maintained, the Rent Subsidy Fund solvent and the many other demands on the park budget. That's why it is so very important that you return your Annual Income Certification Form, which generates the property tax exemption that funds many of these programs.

As I type this--on Aug. 6--we've received Income Forms from 120 of you; that leaves 62 holdouts. Won't you please take a moment and complete this simple task, answer a few questions and return the form? If you misplaced yours, you can get another form from the Office.

As a reminder, if you don't turn in your Income Form you your risk losing your rent subsidy which is funded, in part, by the property tax exemption.

A Man, A Plan...

That's a reference to the famous palindrome: "A man, a plan, a canal, Panama!" A palindrome, of course, is a phrase that spells the same backwards and forwards.

Although not as famous, my favorite palindrome is "Tarzan raised Desi Arnaz' rat," but that's just me. Anyway, the Plan in question is Leisure's Disaster Preparedness Plan, a copy of which is posted in the Clubhouse. The Plan contains, among other information, an evacuation map showing exit routes.

To augment this Plan, Patti and the Homeowners Association are working on a folder containing additional advice regarding how each individual can be better prepared in an emergency. You'll get a copy once it's ready.

Have a Great Labor Day!
