| A SJME Resident Walked Into a Bar...
At our August meeting with the HOA Board, we were asked to remind you of the SJME Rule prohibiting drinking alcoholic beverages anywhere in the common area. Yes, that includes the Clubhouse, even during parties. This was prompted by a 4th of July party in the clubhouse. Some party-goers who brought their favorite adult beverage were warned about the no-alcohol rule. Through an apparent miscommunication, these partiers interpreted the rule as permitting alcohol as long as said beverage was in a brown paper bag that disguised its contents. They didn't ask about hidden flasks or coke bottles with rum inside. If you simply can't get through a party without a shot or two, please imbibe at home, then return to your alcohol-free Clubhouse party. Hey--I didn't write the rule; I'm just the messenger. On A More Positive Note... • Last month I wrote that the SJME Walkers raised "more than $6,000" in the Cancer Relay for Life. Actually, they raised more than $10,000! Both Millennium and Bessire & Casenhiser were happy to contribute to this worthy endeavor. The entire event raised $88,000, so our very own Walkers were a major factor in the total raised. Great job, Walkers! • I've noticed many SJME residents enjoying the new recreation equipment each day. We've even seen some grownups showing the kids their tether ball skills, not to mention their horseshoes and badminton acumen. • We want to thank our own Nicki Ross and those volunteers who helped with the Aug. 26 Back-to-School Party. Food, games, school supplies for everyone, a raffle for new back packs...all sponsored by SPARC, our resident services entity. None of your rent dollars were spent on this party. • I wasn't able to attend Norm Moldenhauer's 3rd Annual Western BBQ on Aug. 14, darn it! If you also missed this fun event, make sure you put it on your calendar next summer. Where is Your Income Certification? As I type this (on Aug. 9), we are still missing Income Certification Forms from 51 households. I should warn you that if you are receiving a Rent Subsidy, you will lose your subsidy if you don't turn in your Income Form. If you moved into SJME after June 1, 2006, you promised--in writing--to send back this form each year. Your promise is part of your rental agreement. If you hadn't made that promise, you would not have been approved for residency. You're going to have to do this eventually; why not take care of this simple task today? You can get another copy of the Form from the office if you've misplaced yours. During Millennium's 4 years of ownership, we've spent about $1,000,000 on Park Improvements and $3,000,000 on rental assistance. A fair amount of these monies came from the Property Tax exemption we get based on your income forms. Wouldn't you much rather see your rent dollars spent on San Juan Mobile Estates instead of being sent to the Tax Assessor? Have a Great Labor Day! |
